"If I Stay" is not the sort of book I usually go in for. I don't like books that make me cry, and YA isn't my usual bag. I picked this up at the library on a whim - it was part of a display, and I liked the cover. In spite of all that, I really enjoyed this book.

Maybe it's because I'm a classical musician, but Mia felt like a real person to me, like one of my friends from high school, when we were all applying to conservatories, with no idea of what life might hold. Is it a sad book? Yes. I tear ...more

I live in Oregon, so it only seems right that I read a book with the setting I know! Too bad there isn't much about Portland, Oregon in there ~ but enough references to make me smile.

All in all though, it's just a sad tale. The choice. It's so sad and devastating and awful and wonderful and surprising and all those things and more to believe....our loved ones are trapped, stumbling around, with a choice and grappling with it. I don't think that comforts me. The thought that they choose to leave. ...more

I watched the movie prior to reading the book. I have to say that the movie was a very good adaptation of it. Simple read but filled with a lot of emotion.

This is one of the rare books, imo, where the movie was just as good.
