My little sister just started reading this and was telling me about it. I was surprised with how much I remembered from this book!
We talked about the characters at the beginning of the book: the Valar and Maiar, what each one's personality is like. I still remember Feanor was my favorite elf (even though most people don't like him). And the first (heartbreaking!) friendship between an elf and a human and how awesome Tinuviel was!

It's hard to know where to start with this review. Fans of Tolkien probably already know that The Silmarillion was Tolkien's life work and that the more famous and iconic Lord of the Rings is only a short tale within the confines of The Silmarillion. It's probably also worth posting a disclaimer: if you love LOTR, you won't necessarily love The Silmarillion. It's a big, complex book that is hard to read and digest.

This is not an easy book to read--yet it's entirely satisfying if you give it the attention it deserves. It reads with archaic-sounding prose, much like a translation of the bible, but much less cryptic. It paints the entire mythology behind Middle Earth, driven by epic stories of tragedy and triumph; inexpressible achievement and immeasurable loss. For those who give it the time, the Silmarillion will repay in satisfaction many times over.

Well, this is actually about the 20th time i have read this book. If your a LOTR fan, than you understand why I have read this so many times. Its a great book if you are interested in what happened in the 1st age of middle earth and what went down with elves, Dwarves, and the Fathers of Men.
Its a complicated journey and I don't recommend it unless you have read the trilogy and the Hobbit.
It is hard to explain how awesome the stories are. Try it for yourself. ...more
