A bit of a darker read than Josh's other books. Right off the bat readers find the main character Bat being blackmailed and has accidentally killed his blackmailer. To Bat's horror a fellow pilot, Cowboy, witnessed his accidental murder of the awful blackmailer. In addition to all this he's trying to move on from the death of his lover, all the while, trying to keep the truth of their relationship from ever surfacing.

A bit too short in order to really bond with the characters. I was missing more detailed background information of the characters. There was some, of course, but this story takes place in 1916, a time when so many things were so different. On top of that, there was a war taking place.
I couldn't get into the story, didn't reallly get the time it takes place in and its characters, their motivation and feelings.
I think that it wouldn't have hurt the story to be a bit longer.
