This time Josh Lanyon uses 3rd person POV (and I was used to the 1st person POV of Adrien English' series) -- and it's nice because I can read both of the main characters' feeling.
The murder mystery is good, it has sort of Agatha Christie's 'closet-case' feel to it: A body that disappears, a story of the "old days", with secret passages in the house. Interesting. And of course, the love story between Perry and Nick is beautiful. I can feel the chemistry and the emotion pouring from the pages.

I'm a big JL fan, so it saddens me to say I did not like this book. The mystery was too convoluted and I didn't feel the romance, because Perry and Nick had no chemistry whatsoever and their HEA felt rushed. All in all, this book didn't work for me.

I loved this book from start to finish! I was a bit unsure when Perry was being portrayed as the thin, frail gay man and Reno the big strong ex-Navy SEAL but they were both strong characters who knew what they wanted. Their romance was very believable, as they danced around each other before eventually getting together ^_^!
Plus the detective story was intriguing, as there were many possibilities as to who dun it! And I have to say that I guessed the murderer at the beginning but then was unsure ...more

Reread in 2014.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The mystery plot is quite good, a nice little who-done-it. There is a fun grab-bag of eccentric characters as well as a creepy, old boarding house. Perry is young and a little naive at times, but he’s likable. Nick is tough, but he has a gentle side, too. He’s older and more experienced than Perry, so the two characters balance each other quite well. The story is light, suspenseful, funny, sexy, and swe ...more

I got what I wanted out of this book. It was a fun read. I wasn't emotionally wrecked by any of the drama between the characters or the mystery and was surprised by the twists and turns that the story took.
