If I could give this book 6 stars... I'd give it ten. Seriously. This book was amazing! I picked it up and right from its oddball start I couldn't put it down. It's dark, and you do have to hunt for the romance for awhile, but I think that's part of what makes this book so good! The sex scenes are not overly dramatic or detailed, but they don't need to be. This book was perfect. An enjoyable read I will pick up again and again and again.

Also... the cover is amazing too!

This is brilliant!!

The world building is excellent. The story has just the right amount of drama, mystery, tension and love, and plenty of heart beating moments as the heroes seek to avoid detection in their struggles for justice.

I really enjoyed the different characters and all the intrigue of the society. The best part of all is that this book is really two books in one with the story unfolding from the perspective of the two main characters - Belimai and Harper. I now have to work my way th ...more

It's a rare thing that I read book several times (three that I am certain of) and like the book more than the first time. That is the case with Wicked Gentlemen. Ginn Hale is a great writer, but this could still be her best book. Or best for my taste.

I liked both Belimai and Harper very much. They are true men, born in different circumstances and with different dreams and desires. Yet... they are so great together. It's a testament of author's talent that I like Belimai - an addict - so much. Re ...more

As a Prodigal, his existence is condemned to a marginal life chased by the relentless and righteous Inquisition. His addition keeps him languid and uninterested in the world around… until Captain William Harper turns up and engages him in an investigation. But Harper has his own secrets to keep, and maybe Belimai’s life is the price to pay to unveil them…
What a riveting story! In a parallel universe, where Demons renounced to Hell and came to live with the human Belimai Sykes is tired of living. As a Prodigal, his existence is condemned to a marginal life chased by the relentless and righteous Inquisition. His addition keeps him languid and uninterested in the world around… until Captain William Harper turns up and engages him in an investigation. But Harper has his own secrets to keep, and maybe Belimai’s life is the price to pay to unveil them…
What a riveting story! In a parallel universe, where Demons renounced to Hell and came to live with the humans in a remote past, the descendants of those Demons, the Prodigals, are treated as second-class citizens and condemned to live a life of marginality. The Inquisition, a pseudo-religious organisation, rules over society with an iron hand, using torture to subdue the mischievous Prodigals. Belimai is one of those half-demons, an air is his element. Long time ago, he was tortured by the Inquisition and as a result he was left broken and an addict. When Harper enters his life, Belimai finds some of the excitement he thought lost forever. As for Harper, he’s got his own secrets. He is a Captain of the Inquisition, but his reasons are far from holly. I really liked these two characters, on their own and together. I enjoyed reading about Belimai’s petty mischiefs hiding Harper’s possessions, and Harper’s need to protect and cherish Belimai. I honestly would never think about two more different lovers… who seem to perfectly complement each other. As for the story itself, it is really engaging. It is divided in two parts, the first one dealing with how Belimai and Harper meet, and the second with how their relationship evolved. The point of view changes, from Belimai’s in the first part to Harper’s in the second. The world building is amazing, and there is a gothic atmosphere to the whole story which clings to the characters and the events it portrays. Like the mist and humidity which muffles Hells Bellow, the characters seems somehow wrapped in an aura of decay and fatalism…
This is my first book by Ginn Hale, but undoubtedly not the last one. Right now, I’m looking for more books I can lay my hands on. So. Good.

Beautiful, beautiful writing. Excellent world building, giving us just enough details to raise more questions and make us want more stories set in this fascinating world.
