Last year, one of my favorite reads of the year was Jane Harper's The Dry. I was mesmerized with the strong sense of Australian's small town in that book, just as much as I loved the story. Ever since then, I am dying to get the same feeling in the romance genre. When I saw this cover and the author's name, I didn't hesitate. With that cover, I was hoping that Henry would deliver.

A lovely read. It was surprisingly straightforward for Lisa Henry. I sort of liked that the romance was in the background rather than the forefront. I can’t wait to read more about Gio and Jason.

Not perfect, but I enjoyed this. The start of the relationship felt a bit abrupt but mostly these guys behave and speak like real people. And it was fascinating to learn about life in remote small town Australia and all the terms/slang. Extra points for Taylor (Jason’s ten-year-old son) being written like a real kid too (except possibly when he said “…that’s probably no consolation…”).

A book of undertones. Very atmospheric.
