What Members Thought

Deanna
Lawrence was emotionally challenged due to his childhood. He lived a lonely life, but it was a life he thought he deserved. He inhabited a couple of rooms in his castle that he never left. He worked on his inventions. He did not want a secretary but was coerced to hire one. Lawrence quickly found a place in my heart. I loved his mind and cried for his fears. I loved his physical reaction to Georgie.

Lawrence wanted to stare, to admire this man the way one might admire a sketch tacked to the wall

Lovely. I really enjoyed this. I loved both the main characters. Lawrence is a reclusive, brilliant, grumpy scientist and Georgie is a sharp-witted, clever London con artist and they're both wonderful characters. This was fun and heartwarming and I'd love to read more about these characters. Their relationship is delightful and I loved reading this. I've really enjoyed this author's work, so I'm definitely looking forward to the next book. ...more

Thank you Ami, for recommended it!
I think I found new favorite MM Historical story too, and new fave Lord as well (^,,^)

FYI, I read in the wrong order. I should've read The Soldier's Scoundrel by Cat Sebastian first, but I'm not interested with its blurb so I just skipped it. The characters were related but the story could be read as stand alone. But after met Jack and Oliver in this story, I'm goin to read their book and the next book ofc!

Nicely written historical story of a reclusive Earl, convinced he is going to succumb to the same madness as his father and brother, and a London swindler sent from town to the wilds of Cornwall to act as his secretary while he also evades his crime boss.

While this was generally very good there were a few things that niggled... like Lawrence being the Earl of Radnor.. which is in Wales not Cornwall.. and his son being Viscount Sheffield... erm.. yeah.. well no.. but that's because of where I liv

Much better than the first in the series. Lawrence and Georgie are wonderful, I enjoyed reading about Lawrence's anxiety and how Georgie took it in stride. They are lovely together. Most of the weaknesses of the first book were corrected, or at least minimized. Then again, I read this, and part of the issue I had with the first book was the bad narration so perhaps that is still coloring my perception. At any rate, I would read this again, even if it does mostly make me miss my favorite historic ...more

3.5 stars. Dani (love and semicolons) noted that this author was being placed on her auto-buy list, so that sparked my curiosity to give this author a try. As others have noted, it is indeed a fun read with an interesting plot and MC's. I particularly liked the story premise, Lawrence's peculiarities and Georgie's sharp-wittedness. I also enjoyed meeting the side characters who were well-fleshed out. Like Kaje Harper, though, I didn't feel emotionally connected to these characters as much as I w ...more
