What Members Thought

In a usual high school setting where everything is supposed to be a big ol’ cliche, the author tried her best to make this a “not another high school”story but it is a “high school story” so inevitably, it totally reads like one. Only the focus of this one involves the forced “coming out” from the closet of our main protagonist Simon and the not so big reveal of his penpal, Blue.
I liked this one mainly because it’s an easy read. It’s predictable, but good predictable. I loved Simon’s character. ...more

Ok, but where has this book been before??? It is perfect and I would have been thrilled to have it in my life as a teen!
The plot revolves over the email conversation between Simon and Blue, his incognito friend whom he befriended via Tumblr and developed a strong connection to. (Sound familiar, eh?) They don't know each others identities but they go to the same school. Simon is being blackmailed by another classmate who wants to date a girl, who is Simon's friend. In spit ...more

I loved this book, it is witty, gripping, heartwarming, full of believable characters.
Everybody says that this is «adorable», and I agree. I'd like to point out that it also provides some food for thought, see for ex. the following quote: «Why is straight the default? Everyone should have to declare one way or another, and it shouldn't be this big awkward thing whether you're straight, gay, bi, or whatever. I'm just saying.»

This is a wonderful young adult story. It is set in high school and felt both current in it's presentation and timeless in what we deal with in high school. Friends, crushes, peer pressure, everything is huge and new and there is drama and fun, and insecurities and growing up. It was thought provoking reading it as an adult and a parent of teens and comparing my memories of high school with the characters experiences and interactions with my own family and of those with my own children. recommend

This story has a pretty solid storyline, about growing up, falling in love, humor elements and teenager's angst. In overall it was a solid story about a boy and his school days. I liked it and wouldn't mind reading more about them!
