I love Josh Lanyon (+1). I love road trip romance theme (+1). But new adult contemporary is not my favorite genre of mine (-1). Having said that, considering that this is Lanyon and the promise of the blurb "From Paris to Rome and back again, Jeff and George fall for each other, hard, while quite literally running for their lives" are enough to make me curious to read this. Not my favorite Lanyon. I have to agree with Ami's review that Jefferson sounded older than he was, but I also found him really boneheaded. I was trying to imagine what 23-year old would act like him, and I considered maybe a very cloistered, wealthy white guy who was locked away at a small liberal arts school, never to really see the world or have to navigate public transit. I think this is one of my favorite of Josh Lanyon's books. The mystery is suspenseful and quirky and the supporting characters are fascinating. I understood and sympathized with both Jefferson and George, even when they were in opposition.
My only caveat to recommending this book is that it's not your typical M/M romance with a HEA ending. The ending is hopeful, and it was satisfying to me, but I know some readers prefer much more unequivocal happy endings, so be aware that (IMO) this isn't one. ...more
