But Macrieve discovers she is his mate and so begins his spiral into disbelief and lust and eventually redemption.

Chloe is a great heroine. For a reader like me who loves feisty heroines, Kresley Cole's leading ladies are the best around. A pure at heart tomboy, an Olympic hopeful in her beloved sport of football (soccer), Chloe is incredibly resilient and open towards Macrieve no matter what he throws up against her. And there is definitely a lot to forgive as he turns on her and uses her as the scapegoat for all his past ills. But she is strong, determined and loyal and their route to love is very satisfying.

One of my favourite parts of the story is Nix of course. Her mangling of Uilleam's name is a stand-out! We get to know 'Hotter' (aka Munroe, Uilleam's brother) quite well and his tendency to take in strays is appealing and his fate at the end of this book is making me impatient to read his story.

This is not a standalone because this book is part of the mini arc-within-an-arc story about the Loreans caught up on the Island which started with Demon from the Dark. It's been a couple of years since I read that so I struggled to remember Macrieve's time in the prison. Any KA noobs could start back with book 0.5 The Warlord Wants Forever or with any of my early faves which could be read alone, A Hunger Like No Other, No Rest for the Wicked, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night, Dark Needs at Night's Edge or Kiss of a Demon King.

This is not my favourite of KC's and there is a sense of having read this story/these characters before but I still haven't had enough of the Lore and Macrieve is a great example of her style and a very good read. ...more

another awesome IAD story...but again I read the epilogue without thinking and will now be in excruciating suspense until the next book :( DO NOT DO THIS...wait until the next book is closer at least. I implore you not to torture yourself like I did.

I so love these characters. I was happy not to have a few chapters that were a retelling of part of the previous book, too many of the other books have that. The beginning was a little confusing time wise, but then it smoothed out and the roller coaster began.
You feel so sorry for Will, then want to slap him, then feel bad then happy then want to slap him. Parts of his back story is so sad. Plenty of humor, action, some sex, great twists, and some mystery. The ending will leave you yelling "No" ...more

More of the same IAD formula where different species from the Lore find their mates in unlikely places. Even though she was quite strong, I’m not sure I liked Chloe all that much – the soccer references got really annoying after a while – but MacRieve was typically hot (and not at all how the cover model depicts him). I really liked Ronan as well. This wasn’t my favourite of the series but it wasn’t the worst either. The epilogue, though, was full of promise for future books.
