This book is so much fun. If you think (like I did before I started this book) that urban fantasy has done everything it can and there is no book that can take on urban fantasy in a fresh and interesting way - -then you need to try this book. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer has what you would expect of an urban fantasy series: werewolves, harbringers, necromancer, witches, supernatural councils, misunderstood power, dragons (yup!), gnomes (uh huh!), ghosts, zombies, the fae, and one higher entity de

3.5 stars rounded up. I enjoyed reading this book and the sequel over the past couple of days. Fairly light UF with appealing characters. I did find it very choppy though. Events and conversations inexplicably left unresolved. Things that would shock me or make me question are just glossed over by the characters. Some pivotal characters lacking depth or background. The shifting POV's. But then other times I was affected more deeply by what was happening. In any case it's fun and recommended for

To be honest, this book could have had a plot that rivaled (insert name of insipid book here) and I probably would have still given it a try based on the title. Every time I looked at the book, "Tiny Dancer" popped into my head. And the fact that the chapter titles were from songs didn't help my earworm disease.

Very different and I really liked it. The characters are very strong and come across clearly. I am assuming there is another one coming or hope there is because of the way it ended. I like how this author writes. The friends stick together too which is important I think. I amthat finding personally in life that is rare so I liked that part too.

What to say?! This book was tons of fun to read. Sam is such a likable character as well as his small group of friends. Everyone's sense of humor throughout the book made even the heavy moments smile-worthy. This is like a smorgasbord of supernatural, the only thing that I don't remember reading was vampires, and who knows, in this world, I'm sure they're out their somewhere sucking up some blood.
This is a must read for urban fantasy fans who like their books with a healthy dose of humor. Fans ...more

This is a review of the audio version of the book.
It's hard to review this book because I really did enjoy the book. The author's imagination and sense of humor made this an incredibly fun read. I loved the characters, their personalities, and all the wacky situations they found themselves in. The narrator's voice was perfect and this would be a definite choice for a road trip listen.
So why only 3 stars? I just felt that the end dragged on and on. Up to about 75% of the book this was a solid 4 ...more

This wasn’t one of my favorite books but I haven’t given up on the series nor the author. I did like Sam and his friends but Douglas seemed like they needed a bad guy. He felt to me like the bad guy in the first Despicable me. I did find this book funny but I didn’t get horror like a lot of people are shelving this under. I didn’t like the back and forth between the characters. Maybe the second book will not really have that but I don’t know.
