This story got off to a great start! There was plenty of action and intrigue. Quinn was very interesting right from the start , and the reader was intrigued with the character Gideon .Then we were introduced to Grace and the action really ramped up and we were off and rolling .Then BAM !! We hit the romance portion of this story. This is where we hit a brick wall. It was all this silly Sheva/destiny nonsense. Quinn kept making lame passes at Grace using the excuse that they were tied together wi This story got off to a great start! There was plenty of action and intrigue. Quinn kept making lame passes at Grace using the excuse that they were tied together with this destiny thing. His pick up lines were cheesy and corny. Then was the brain numbing scenes where they are running for their lives, sometimes WITH OTHER PEOPLE AROUND mind you!! And they keep having to stop for several pages of corny make out sessions. Because come, on we all really want to “do it” while we are RUNNING FOR OUR LIVES!! This was a very “teenager” kind of romance. Not the stuff that middle age women like me find sexy. The whole problem with this story was in the romance.
The action : spectacular
The characters: fantastic
The writing : ( romance aside) very good
The problem was the author tried too hard to shove this couple down our throat and force the romance on us. The sad part was without this silliness we would have rooted for them .They were actually very good together.. Given a proper buildup they could have been really amazing and sensual. In fact I thought it was ironic that Grace thought the whole sheva/destiny thing was stupid. It was also interesting when the Warriors called them out on the public make out sessions during a crisis. This shows me that the Author herself knew this was lame but kept it in there anyway. It was almost like she didn’t want to bother to go back and “clean up” the beginning of the book.
This story had the potential to be GREAT but instead was only mediocre. Authors need to please stop trying so hard to shove a romance and sex down our throats. Sex in a story is only sexy when you are invested in the characters. Otherwise its just sex for the sake of throwing sex into it. Its like watching a movie with topless women walking around for no apparent reason. Its just silly and its not romantic.
So , I will say if you are a fan of the cheesy romances or the romances where “ destiny“ is thrown in as a simple plot device .
Then this is a great book and you will love it. If you are looking at this title for the paranormal element you will be somewhat disappointed a quarter way into it but if you will stick it out the pay off at the end is totally worth it. I know I was hard on the author in this review but the whole romance element of this book didn’t work for me. However it was very good if the romance had been edited properly. ...more
