I like my PNR a bit on the steamy side so this was very tame for me. I liked the slow pace at the beginning and how the heroine took some time to get used to the supernatural world but I had hoped the action at the end was going to be more exciting. I really didn't feel any sense of danger - which is not what you look for when I read a vampire book - and the issues were over too quickly. Not sure if I'm continuing the series.

"No secret stays hidden forever."
A phone call from an old friend sets Dr. Giovanni Vecchio back on the path of a mystery he'd abandoned years before. He never expected a young librarian could hold the key to the search, nor could he have expected the danger she would attract. Now he and Beatrice De Novo will follow a twisted maze that leads from the archives of a university library, through the fires of Renaissance Florence, and toward a confrontation they never could have predicted.

The man stole down the hallway, his footsteps echoing in the dimly lit basement of the library. He made his way quietly, brushing aside the dark hair that fell into his eyes as he looked down. Holy rusted metal Batman! That was a fun read!
I could hang with all the characters. Although, I don’t think I would be a good “pet” for Gio to take to Gavin’s bar. I’d wear a turtleneck and taunt all the vampires with, “figure this out,” while pointing to my neck. And please, he only kissed her for show and didn’t mean it? Come on!

I was unsure about this book even though I had seen some reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. The story was intriguing, full of suspense. I enjoyed the play between the characters and the unfolding of their natures. I fully admit that (view spoiler)
