ETA 6/7/13: Bought it & read it anyway. I have no self-control when it comes to Singh. Am I still pissed about that disappointing half-assed anticlimactic excuse for a blurb reveal? Of course. But not once did I say my disappointment would cause me to turn my back on Singh, because I love her books to pieces. I'm very happy with HoO.

I am however very angry that she made this big production out of the blurb just so she could reveal not a goddamn thing. If she'd rolled out the blurb without the countdown, I'd be more than okay. But she decided to promote the cover and blurb for this much anticipated book and the reveal didn't live up to the hype. What's the point of creating a countdown for your blurb if your blurb reveals next to nothing? *sigh* The rant below is one I wrote when the blurb for HoO came out & I'm not going to change it. It's how I felt then and it's how I still feel. I'm never gonna stop reading Singh's books because I adore them but I extremely disappointed with her for this bullshit stunt she pulled in the name of publicity.

DAFUQ? All of this anticipation (Singh created a countdown for the cover AND the blurb, ffs!) to find out who the H/h of HoO are and she gives us....abso-fucking-lutely NOTHING. Sure, I can take the crumbs she fed us and speculate on who the hero is (It's Ghost! No wait, it Kaleb! It's Aden! It's some unknown guy who is really Aden and Kaleb's love child!) but I've been doing that since HoO was titled "Psy-Changeling #12." I feel so letdown right now. I feel like Singh tricked me. Got my hopes up. For NOTHING.

Alls I'm going to say is....I was gonna buy this book in hardback and I RARELY buy books in hardback (I am a broke-ass uni student after all). Now? I'm going to wait until my library orders it & read it for $free.99. I'm sure I'll calm down by the time June rolls around but right now I feel like Singh played with my emotions & I don't appreciate that shit at all. I still ♥ her and I'll quit her series NEVER, but right now? I feel like

There were lots of scenes showing the growth and development of their relationship both in the present and their shared past. The first half of the book focuses primarily on them and I greatly enjoyed it.

The second half let me down hugely. The romance was still sweet but the tension sort of fizzled. Kaleb is pretty much a done deal at this point and he just harped on about his angst over Sahara remembering their final meeting before she disappeared. I loved the romance between Kaleb and Sahara. Kaleb is pretty much a done deal at this point and he just harped on about his angst over Sahara remembering their final meeting before she disappeared. Sahara though couldn’t just be happy because she created a conflict out of boredom I guess. Even though Kaleb told her his goal was to ban Silence, she was suspicious that he was helping Pure Psy whose mission was more Silence. Didn’t make any sense and then when she finally questions him he just said “nope, not me” and she was all “oh, sorry to hurt your feelings” and he was like “no biggie.” Kinda seemed like pointless drama.

But really my main issue with the second half of the book can be summed up in one word: anticlimactic. Throughout the majority of the book Sahara’s secret ability was referred to often as something that was a game changer. I was very eager to see it finally unleashed but when it is, Sahara simply uses it to make a man take a nap. Oh, and later she eavesdrops on some people. The woman who tortured her for seven years is taken care of by Kaleb pretty early on. Sahara doesn’t even get to confront her to get some closure. I’d have loved to see her use her ability on Tatiana to share her memories of torture or even the circumstances that caused her to be abducted. But no, Kaleb just stuck her in a hole.

Of course, Sahara would never inflict pain on someone. Being female she’s filled with empathy for all and only hurts someone when forced. Readers never seem to be allowed to see a woman act ruthless unless they are the villain. Sahara tells Kaleb about her not being the innocent miss he thinks she is but the worst she’s done is smash a bug or something. It’s very disappointing to have a woman capable of great strength do pretty much nothing but sit around for the entire book.

Kaleb’s major nemesis was killed years prior to this story and not even by him. At the end when the big reveal of Sahara’s abduction happened, I wanted to see the man go down. Nope, go back and read the other book. I’d have liked to see Tatiana evading capture while trying to recapture Sahara throughout the book and then get taken care of at the climax so I’d at least get my own feeling of closure. And Kaleb’s angst? Silly boy, you totes don’t remember what happened properly. Nothing to forgive.

The bit with Pure Psy was fine but again it felt like a letdown when the way that resolved was with a bulletin saying “heads up everyone, we’re not gonna do that Silence stuff anymore.” The entire population of Psy were just waiting for Kaleb to tell them the law changed and he found love so they can too.

BTW, I'm Batman.

TL;DR: The sociopath with a soft spot for his childhood sweetheart was a great fantasy but the action let me down.

This was unexpected. Looking back, I semi-remember the hype regarding the mystery couple but I went into this blind. Definitely questioned my reading abilities once I started to realize who the book was about. I went back to the blurb to see if I was missing something - only to find it completely useless. It took me about half the book to get used to the idea and by the end, I was in love. The two deleted scenes at the end made my heart happy :)

Since I need to post this for BSB I'm going to stay completely spoiler free. So what I will say is that the last few pages of Tangle of Need made me anticipate this book so much I really couldn't wait. I can't even tell you when I last pre-ordered a kindle book (why bother, they come right when you pay). But I had this one queued up and ready to go as soon as I opened my eyes on Tuesday. I stayed completely spoiler free and stayed off the internet pretty the whole time I was reading it.
