★★★★★ Man-oh-man! LOVED this one. I thought it was going to be too dark for me... but, it pulled me in and wouldn’t let go. It is definitely going on my list of “My Best Books of the Year for 2014.” I already ran out and bought the next one to start right away. Plus, although it is now out in PB, I bought the first one in HC to match the second, as it is something I want in my permanent library.

Ten years later and I still loved this adventure into this intriguing world. I'll probably re-read up until the story veers away from the Courtyard since those were my favorite.

I was hesitant to start this book because so many people have raved about it and that usually means one of two things. 1, I will love it or 2, it won't hold my interest. I am ecstatic to say it falls into the first category.

There are so many things that I cold say about this book but I hate giving spoilers, so I will say this - the writing is outstanding and the world building is first class. The intricacies of the world and it's inhabitants are close enough to real life that you can follow it e ...more

Very slow-paced. The first 60-70% were telling and retelling the same vague history of Meg and describing in excruciating detail all the dreary details of her day to day life, from snacking to putting on her socks...

It was almost cringe inducing how some of the characters were one-dimensional, most of them were a haze anyway since they weren't described to begin with.
