Interesting self published novel mentioned by Ilona Andrews. This story is about Lissa, a forty six year old woman whose husband has just died after years of suffering. In the midst of her grief she is attacked and 'turned' by two dissolute vampires for a bet.

This is a great start to the series. While I don't feel like any aspect of it is super original, a woman is turned against her will, realizes she's vampire and has no sire to teach her, females are extremely ratre, etc, I liked the way it was done. The characters are likable and you feel for Lissa as she explores her new world as a vampire and is trying to figure things out. I don't usually write reviews but with this one, I couldn't help but comment that I just didn't warm to it like everyone else seemed to. I found it somewhat forced in the emotional scenes, and a bit unbelievable in alot of other scenes. There's good potential for the storyline but the delivery lacked for me...! ...more

Love this series, it did take some twists and turns and seemed to go way off course in some of the books but a great read nevertheless. Only complaint would be that all of the books ended on cliffhangers which made the book seem not complete on their own.
