I've had this on my TBR pile since it was released and I never picked it up or ever really considered it, I got pulled into books with a lot of hype or beautiful covers. Now while I am happy I waited because the sequel is in the works and it won't seem like such a long wait to get it, I feel like I robbed myself of this great story for way to long! This in my opinion was a terrific book. I really liked Gaia, from the first page you can see her uncertainty. She knows what she should do but it sti ...more

This a good, though slightly uneven dystopian young adult novel. I liked the main character and the story of how she came to realize her world was not as it appeared. It felt, however like a book originally intended to be stand alone that was adapted to have a sequel bait ending. Okay, this book is by no means perfect, but it's one where the good outweighs the bad/and or questionable parts. Gaia is perfectly content to follow in her midwife mother's footsteps. Every month in return for resources to survive their harsh climate the Enclave has a quota for the people outside the walls to fill, not with food or other materials, but with babies (bwahaha, sorry couldn't help it). This is what Gaia has grown up with as the norm and after her first solo delivery and drop-off of ...more

3.5 stars--I really likes this and look forward to reading the next in the series. The dystopian world set-up was believable. The choices Gaia must make are realistic. She's strong and fearless and not too holier-than-thou. ...more

Good read for the most part, though a bit slow. I liked Gaia and wouldnt mind reading more about her. World was somewhat interesting.
