This is often noted as the first book in the great decline of Anita Blake, but I noticed that it many of my GR friends have given it 4/5 stars. For me, this book was a weak book. It was weak because it lacked the horror and fear element. My favorite Anita Blake books are the ones with a very strong horror background. I really liked this book. I know there are several Hamilton readers who stopped liking the series when she started incorporating more sex. I don't think the sex took away from the book and I won't lie...I appreciate a steamy read! I guess my only complaint, if you could call it that even, is that I felt like some of the intimacy was lost. I'm not talking about sex, I mean intimacy between characters. I guess I came to the point that so many decided to drop it, and I can kind of see the reason why.
Until now every book has a certain structure that is messed up in this one. The usually is someone getting into shit and Anita having to help out, the books just started with shit happening somewhere. But in this one the shit is kind of pushed back and instead we get lots of the other kind of action, that really boarders the lint into the erotica genre. The killing is kind of not the same, I guess.. ...more
