The Flooze
A freaky ending, an interesting magic system, and mysterious societies lurking on the fringe have convinced me to read the third book. But, I have my reservations.

It's hard to pin down how I feel about Ms. Beckstrom. I don't dislike her, but I'm not particularly attached to her either. Combine that with paragraph after paragraph of tedious detail and this isn't a series I'm excited about. The final third of this book is really good, fast moving and engaging. The first hundred pages, though, are slow. The next hundred are quicker, but not as engaging as I expected. The problem is that, while this is the second book in a series, we still have hundreds of pages of world building, and it's nitty gritty world building without the engaging wonder of coming into a brand new universe that we got in the first book.

How to review this book - I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it, so we'll see how this all plays out...

I’m going to start off by saying I love this reader. She’s so good. I often forget it’s one person. She’s one of my favorite readers.

Lots and lots of action and danger. The plot and pacing were great. I hate for her that she loses her memory but it’s an unusual twist to the usual magic user so in that way I like it. There’s a lot of repetition but it usually felt like it was because she’d forgotten the scene in which she told us and was repeating it as if it was the first time. Mostly.

This barely made the cut, but hints of an intricate future plot tip this book into the four star category.
