Ashmole 782?

★★★★★ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I’ll be honest and say it took me several attempts at this one. After failing three times, I just put the audiobook in the car; I figured there I would be a captive audience. I was really beginning to wonder how this book ever received GoodReads’ Romance of the Year Award. However, I ended up loving it and wanting to go out to do my errands just to listen to the story. Eventually, I had my iPod in my ears while I did my grocery shopping. It ...more

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. That being said, it is a very heavy book. I don't mean literally, even though it is that as well. At almost 600 pages it has a lot of information that is can be important later on and easy to miss if you just skim over parts. The mix of history, science, and paranormal was well done and I enjoyed it more than I anticipated.

My Co-worker actually recommended this book to me and I was immediately intrigued by the concept of an innovative world inhabited of WITCHES, vampires, & Daemons! I enjoyed it! However, the beginning was a slow read for me. There were lots of explanations into the world building, which is expected. However, I thought the descriptions and explanations were a bit too tedious and took away from what could have been a much more interesting beginning. The plot of the story in my opinion was not origi ...more

A very good read! The plot was intricate and very interesting. Deborah has created an awesome world with a sort of unique trio of main creature types; daemons, witches and vampires. The array of spells witches are able to use is vast and so so awesome! Some of the history and unnecessary details wore me down a bit, but when all is said and done I LOVE Matthew and Diana. They really are beautiful together. Absolutely looking forward to the second book!

Took multiple tries to finish and in the end I had to get an audiobook and listen on my commute. It shouldn’t take till 60% in for a book to get interesting. And why does Matthew personally know all the famous historical figures? LOL
