With the sudden oomph of Dystopian to the world of books, it's no surprise that it still remains popular as many authors continue to bring them out with a hint of other genres. In Defiance , parts of it reminded me of The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood , The Selection by Kiera Cass and The Maze Runner by James Dashner. What I really love to about the genre of Dystopian is that unlike the Vampire Craze where it tended to be the Males as the heroes and a few female heroines, in the world of Dys ...more

Shelves: not-for-me, started-but-not-interested, shall-go-no-further, 2012, ya

Not going to be able to do it. The heroine supposed to have a hard shell and a gooey center, but I find her petulant and dramatic. She's all about finding her missing father, but makes life difficult for the boy that's supposed to take care of her (at her beloved father's decision). Instead of taking two seconds to think things through, and I mean think, she jumps before she looks and damn the consequences. This reminds me a little bit of Partials. The only survival skills they have are their wits and talents. This was just slightly better than Partials, I feel. I wish it made a bigger impact. I'm missing Angelfall. I couldn't find a newer series that is as mind blowing as that one. Defiance has its moments but it didn't take me to that OMG crisis, revelations, or lunacy that made me forget I have work to do. :-) hehe ...more
