I know it's been months since I read the previous book in this series but I've gone over a year between and books and have still been able to jump right back in with the characters like it was yesterday.
I just could not reconnect with Cat or Bones or Tate or anyone until I was around the 150th page mark. I mean, good God! I felt like it was stale and empty filler for those first hundred or so pages. I was bored and wondering how I could e ...more

I try to like the Night Huntress novels, but it's not as easy for me as many others. I do love Bones without a doubt, but it's the way Jeaniene structures her stories that I'm not fond with.
This is a pretty good installment to the series. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I don't get these firecracker sparks much with this series.

Re-read 4/3/11
This is the third book of the series and along the way we find out a little more of the secondary characters such as Vlad & Mencheres.
We go from the usual vampire assassinations to Cat's father nearly killing her and that's just the beginning of the book.
Various power sharing, deaths, takeovers, zombies & Egyptian "Goddesses" later we come to the crux of the book - Justina is coming to like the "filthy animal", Bones after he once again saves her life (surely only for Cat's sake). ...more
