I enjoyed this book but not as much as books 1-3. Not enough action and the mystery seemed unnecessary. I still love the characters and can't wait to see how the series ends. ...more

Book #4 in the Parasol Protectorate series was a hoot!
A ghost delivers a "ghostly message" LOL, "Kill the Queen", and Alexia as Muhjah is off and running the investigation, despite the fact that she is at least 8 months pregnant. The Westminster Hive of vampires has also been trying to assassinate her before she gives birth to the abomination. Their latest attempt was mechanical porcupines.
Can't really say too much more as it is all spoilers.

★★★★★ This series just gets better and better. Love the detail and the wit. I feel as if I’ve gotten to know these wonderful characters (though some are infuriating!) and at the same time they keep surprising me. Ms. Carriger had me on the edge of my seat for chapters, laughing out loud, wanting desperately to learn what happened next ー yet conversely wanting to savor each word. Wonderful. Can’t wait for the next installment.

My there was a lot of eating done in the forth book of the Parasol Protectorate. I was shocked by the fact that Alexia wasn't confined, as was the custom in England during this era. I did find so much humor in the final chapters of the book, but I shall not spoil this humorous end. So please continue on with your day.

My Thoughts: This book is my favorite of this series so far. It had plenty of action (and then some) along with a waddling, pregnant Alexia. Couldn't ask for more.
I said in my review of Blameless that I was curious how the end of it was going to affect Biffy. We find out in this book and it's not the best. By the end it sounds like things may be looking up for him which makes me happy since he's one of my favorites.
