Thud!

This is the first book in the World of Kate Daniels and tells Andrea's story. The story picks up after Magic Slays. Andrea has been released from the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid and is working with Kate at Cutting Edge. She and Raphael have split because of choices she made when Kate's Aunt Erra was destroying Atlanta. A job investigating the deaths of four shifters that worked for Raphael brings them back together. I like Andrea and really felt for her pain, especially when (view spoiler). If they continue the World of Kate Daniels series, I hope Roman gets his own story as I'd like to know more about him (got to love the Eeyore pjs) and he deserves someone special.

I just finished Gunmetal Magic: A Novel in the World of Kate Daniels. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not just a gushing fan, I really liked this book. Andrea, like Kate, has been alone in this world and it's no wonder that they are best friends. Andrews gave her such depth, a kick a## style all her own. Raphael is a much deeper, caring, and protective character than was previously portrayed. Roman, (the warlock/priest)was a cute guy always striving to be funny and alluring. I loved Andrea's debut as the POV character in a full length book. Like Kate, she's tough and kick-ass with a wicked and sarcastic sense of humor. Her relationship with Raphael is on the rocks at the beginning of this story and I simultaneously feel for each of them and want to knock their heads together when they are hurting each other. And although these are firmly UF and not PNR, like Kate & Curran, Andrea & Raphael do work it out.

The plot was pretty typical for this series. It was heavy on m

The Ilona Andrews team has done it once again! Another great book with an awesome main character. I love Andrea!

I was glad to get some closure with Andrea and Raphael... However, I think the strength in this series is its urban fantasy elements, rather than the romance, and this book was heavier on the romance than the UF. And I'm more invested in Kate than Andrea, at this point :) Still a solid filler though! 4* ...more
