Fanfuckingtastic.
I'll admit I was worried about this one. As Roman tells Andrea, "You were all clenched up before... Very serious. Robot Andrea." And she was. In Kate's books, I'd found her absolute devotion to rules and order difficult to relate to. I admired her skill and determination, but I didn't look forward to a whole book from her POV.

Gunmetal Magic on Books On Track
Update: Re-read: 31 Aug 2018:
Andrea finally makes peace with who she is and finds her place in the world, as well as her happily ever after.
Enjoyable story, that showed us a different side of favorite characters. There is a deleted epilogue for this book that comes next, Andrea and Raphael's Wedding.

This book was classic Andrews. Lots of magic, action, godly interference, and of course snark! While I didn't love this quite as much as a Kate book, I still enjoyed the visit to magical Atlanta and learning Andrea's side of the story.

I understand the woman scorned, but I thought Andrea seemed unreasonably stubborn and annoying. If Andrea had such low self-esteem and a gorgeous, sexy male was interested, she should've been grateful for the attention. Instead she pushed him away and pouted when he didn't chase her down. Of course he was going to move on, she was stupid and naive to think he was pining for her. (view spoiler)

A really good book. I was curious how Andrea and Raphael's story will turn out. And it was great to see all the other characters, too. Especially Barabas, who has a much bigger part in this book than in the Kate Daniels ones (and I now want to know more about Ethan!).
One thing that I didn't like? Every time Andrea ran out of arguments, she started all about how spoiled Raphael was. Every frickin' time. She made it sound like he was some kind of a leech, not a hard-working man taking care of a w ...more

I knew Andrea had a bad past, but reading it in a bit more detail emphasized how bad it was. We're finally told what happened to her after the last battle when the Order took her away and why she couldn't contact Raphael. Roman was great and I hope he shows up in more books along with Ascanio. I didn't realize Barbaras was so funny. The end when there was more about Anapa and Anep was kind of weird. But I don't like snakes anyway.

This started out a little rough. It was hard to read from Andrea's perspective when I hadn't particularly cared for her before. I didn't dislike her, but I found her annoying. She was good in this, though. There was lots of action, peril, death bed scenes, etc., which kept me happy. I liked some of the secondary characters and both Andrea and Raphael were distinctly different from Kate and Curran.

If I could give this 6 stars, I would. I was so caught up in Andrea's story, I got choked up with tears when Raphael was being an ass. Plus, there's Egyptian jackal-headed gods, snake venom, cool ancient artifacts, the return of the Slavic volkhv Roman, and Andrea, who finally accepts her beastkin.
I think this book made me fall in love with the genre again.
