In March 2011, The Wise Man's Fear was out on shelves. 18 months later I have finally read it. I'm pretty much trying to explain just how high my expectations were for this book. I've had it sitting on my shelf for the better part of a year and I wouldn't let myself read it until the time was right. This is a first even for me as I tend to read books literally as I walk out the bookshop.

Phew, reading this on audiobook was really a struggle! Well over 70 hours of audio meant that I had to do it in fits and starts. There was definitely a point just over two thirds of the way through where I wanted to give up, although the book finished strong which is what granted it the extra star. I think the biggest issue with audio was that it made me realise how much my reading varies in pace, skimming over parts that weren't interesting and slowing on the good bits.
