This is a review of the audio book version which was very nicely done.
The Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch is one of those hidden gems that I would love to see made into a TV series. The series stars Locke Lamora and his buddy Jean who have been very successful thieves and con men from their youth. Locke and Jean both have many aliases and consequently they do have people after them. They are extremely clever and the situations they get into are dangerous, scary, and sometimes even humoro ...more

I used to want to see Sabatha coming and messing with Locke. After finishing the second book, I have changed my mind.
Please please Mr Lynch, don't bring Sabatha back, you'll have her die in a unexpected way and break my heart in a million pieces like you have done twice so far.
That said, this book is amazing. The characters are great and have what makes all good characters amazing, contradictions and unlikable attitudes. Locke and Jean are far from perfect, what they lack in moral compass they f ...more

Locke and Jean are in a new city with a 2 year plan almost to completion when complications arise.
What I enjoyed:
* Convoluted plots, I really don't know how Locke and Jean keep it all straight in their own heads
* Ridiculous amounts of danger (view spoiler)
* (view spoiler)
* The end - an interesting plot twist and a bit of a cli ...more

Red Seas Under Red Skies is the second book in the Gentelman Bastard series. I read the books almost back to back and while I do like the first one more, this one is no slouch either.
In the first book we learned about Camorr, about Alchemy, about the Eldren and about Locke and Jean. Now we have no use for most of this knowledge because we find ourselves in Tal Verrar, in the middle of another game.
It has been a little more than two years since the events in The Lies of Locke Lamora and Locke and ...more

I only discovered this series this year so I did not have to wait years to read both books. This has the advantage of having fresh memory of both main characters but it has the downside of making comparisons too.
We start to story with our two remaining Gentleman Bastards: Locke and Jean. The first book was rife with emotional heartbreak of the downfall of the Gentleman Bastards in Cammorr. The build up of the attachment to the characters in the first book was well done because it had multiple fl ...more

The second book in the series was a little bit of a hard sell as this was hit with 2nd book in a series curse the first book is amazing and then the 2nd book is just trying to live up to that but this was a compelling tale. I think that for most of the first book i just knew they were going to pull it off and they were well ahead in this one they seemed to be trying to catch up, as situations kept changing so many different moving parts came into play that you were not sure of anything except th
