Why didn’t I read this sooner?

Kindling the Moon was a fun read for me. The author creates an interesting world where Earthbound demons walk among us and magical orders exist. Kindling the Moon is the story of a young woman forced to live in hiding under an assumed name because of her parents’ involvement in a series of high profile murders. Her current identity is Arcadia Bell and she is a bartender and part owner of the Tambuku Tiki Lounge (love that name!), a hangout for Earthbound demons.

I had high hopes for this book but it was just a bit meh for me. I didn't like or dislike the main character Arcadia, the male lead Lon was okay, Jupe however stole the show for me. His energy bounces off the wall, a really great character and a charming one at that. The mystery of the story was kinda of obvious in retrospect, and its not like it was the main focus of the book anyway. the relationship between Lon and Arcadia was, which in my opinion slow things down considerably. This was a very good first entry in this series. Being the first in the series there's a bit of exposition and world building at the beginning that may get a little confusion. But just stick with it and it all makes sense once the action starts. I really liked all the main characters which made sticking with it very easy.

Cady is an interesting heroine. She's not quite "normal", has a lot of power and has been on the run most of her life. In other words, she doesn't quite fit in anywhere. She's y

Mystery-wise a really good read. It was a nice twist there. :)

Romace-wise... I guess this is more PNR than UF...

My most fave character here is motor-mouth. :)

Will I read the next one? Yes I would but I'm not head of heels on this one. It still is an entertaining read. :) Let's just say, I found it hard to read in one go but when I'm not reading it, I'm thinking about the plot. Shrug.

It is not often that I give 5 stars to a new author. Jenn Bennett has created a wonderful story with engaging characters. Cady is a strong capable heroine. Lon is the quiet intelligent hero and Jupe is a teenager with the personality of a Jack Russell on crack! Demons, family in hiding and a spark of romance. Excellent!

Quirky heroine, magick, lodges and the occult!

Ahhh, I love it!
