What Members Thought

After hearing so many good things about this audiobook, I decided to download it to my iPod. I loved James Marsters in Buffy and Angel so I thought this was the perfect book to get me started in this format.
Well, James Marsters was brilliant he really made an effort to bring this book to life with different voices, inflections etc. However this is the only good thing I can say about it. Harry was a moron, he may have had magical skill but little common sense. If you risk your life in your job w ...more

I enjoyed this first Dresden novel. Having heard so many negative reviews about the first book in the series, I wasn't sure what to expect. No, it wasn't the best book ever, but it was entertaining. I'll admit though that I imagine my enjoyment of the book was greatly enhanced by James Marsters' narration. He's got a brilliant voice and played the various parts very well. I did enjoy this first Dresden Files book. The only bits I didn't like where the casual narrator speaking to the reader. I think those kinds of elements take away from the story, make you aware that you're reading a story, versus letting yourself go and melting into the story as if you're some entity just looking in on the happenings. I'd be curious to read more in the series.
