I'm not sure what it is , but two of my favourite types and this is from a long list of favourites as I'm a HUGE and ECLECTIC reader is boarding school novels and mythology. The boarding school probably stems from the fact ,that I always wished I went to boarding school but we could never afford it and the mythology stems from personal interest - I find it so fascinating. Jennifer Estep's new series Mythos Academy has it all , as I present to you Book #2 Kiss of Frost. In the first book "A touch ...more

2.5-stars- This is the second book in Estep's new YA series and I decided to read it after enjoying her UF series. Yet the writing and story is just not as good here. I'm used to her rehashing plot points with the same turns of phrase (same descriptions of the characters, splash of freckles and all), but it was too much in this one. The characters are young, but in terms of maturity they just don't get it and I'm left rolling my eyes at half of their antics disguised as ways to make the material ...more

The book started out with a lot of repeat from the previous book as though the author figured nobody would have read it before starting. This was annoying because it went on interminably, but once the author had caught up the rest of the story went along with a bang. Non-stop action continued from this point on.

The romance is going slowly, which makes it more believable, and Gwen did pine over Logan through much of the book. Gwen is a very strong character, and although she makes some stupid and

3.5 stars. Gwen is still irritating me. Gwen decides not to report a Reaper threat because she wants to be able to handle things herself?! And Gwen spends toooooo much time moaning about Logan. This may be typical teenage crush behavior, but it was annoying. Also, the constant re-listing of the clues and attacks was tiresome.

Winter Carnival was cool event. But it turns out to be more scary than romantic or fun for Gwen. (view spoiler)

A book away from an episode of hoarders
This book started almost immediately after Touch of Frost when we're thrown into Gwen's training with Logan.

I liked this book enough to finish it in one day although I have to admit that I knew almost immediately that you-know-who was a bad guy. I was a bit surprised about the identity of the attacker from the library (as well as the reasoning behind the attacks) and thought it was a bit excessive, even for Mythos Academy.

I'm definitely going to continue the series.
