A short story of the upyr set in the modern United States, this installation of the series finds Bastien and Emile, the French renegades of the earlier story, looking to start their own pack after having been given a friendly nudge by Ulric off the British isles. Bastien opens a bread and breakfast, the eponymous Night Owl, from which he has a window on the human world.
