I think Jacquelyn Frank did an excellent job with Jacob. Who else has written about demons you actually fall in love with? I love her "nightwalkers", demons who possess strengths from the elements and fight to protect humans for their uncontrollable urges under the weight of the moon. Jacob is their only enforcer, taking on the job of patrolling for wayward demons intent on causing harm to humans. He is a young Ancient of seven hundred years and has never known love. Frank's writing is dangerously close to purple prose, her POV jumps all over the map, and she writes like she's trying to use every page in her thesaurus. HOWEVER, I still enjoyed this book. The story carried me through. Once I got on a roll with it, I couldn't put it down.

I felt like the romance kept clubbing me over the head. I liked the premise and world building, but not the couple's story. However, I will continue the series. I am interested to read Gideon's and Magdalena's story.
