Overall, I really liked this book. The plot zipped along and held my attention quite well. I particularly liked the introduction of Orion, he was a lot of fun and added a lot to the book. Though I wish Angelini hasn't decided to make Orion fall for Helen and have Helen caught between him and Lucas. I don't really like love triangles. Who knows though, he might meet someone in Goddess. I so should've stopped at Starcrossed like the lot of you did, but no, I had this stupid thing called hope that these characters weren't gonna drive me bonkers and the plot wasn't going to be dreadfully boring. I was wrong once again. DREAMLESS wasn't all that I thought it was going to be.

Dreamless is the sequel to Starcrossed, a YA work that includes elements of Greek mythology and plays on the Trojan war. Helen is a demigod; she has powers she doesn't want to think about and tries to keep herself out of sight as much as possible. However, after meeting the Delos family, first impression made from when she tried to kill fellow classmate Lucas with her bare hands, she has to learn to embrace her other side. Her task: to go into the underworld and help the Furies so that they stop tormenting her and the Delos family, to stop the blood feud once and for all.

So... there were a lot of loose ends in Starcrossed. One of the huge "revelations" in the previous book was that Lucas, Helen's love interest, is (view spoiler) This actually got me interested in the previous book because it's just SO wtf-worthy, but then you kind of want to bash your head in -- Helen's mother (view spoiler), and nobody else can do basic math, apparently. 19 =/= 17. Unfortunately, this doesn't get resolved in this book, which is rather disappointing.

I was kind of disappointed in Angelini's writing in this book. There's a lot of areas where she tells instead of shows... and instead of Helen expressing past events via dialogue, I saw a lot of "Helen went over how ____." I didn't mind it the first few times, but then it got pretty noticable -- sometimes dialogue doesn't work like that and sometimes you need to condense to move the plot along, but here it felt rushed and awkward.

The dreaded second love interest: Orion. He's kind of the Jacob figure of this book -- he's nice and supports Helen when Lucas is being a douche, but everyone keeps warning Helen not to get attached to him, because he's from Aphrodite's lineage and can play with people's hearts, control their emotions, etc. Naturally, she does.
