I'm sorry, I don't get it. I'm not sure why Darkfever is so popular. For most of the book I was bored and on top of that the characters are incredibly unlikeable. I only continued because I was advised that it gets better and it did improve a little but not enough for me to give it 3 stars.
My major problem was Mac and Barrons. Mac is supposed to be a bartender from a small town so she's sheltered but she's spoilt and lacks brains and common sense. She stumbles into bad situations without thinkin ...more

Oh gods, really? I couldn't stop the giggles of the Southern cliche' driven girl! This was a really fantastic series overall. Much of this goes on.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I love the style of writing from Karen Moning - all of the foreshadowing really kept my attention (in fact she still has it as I can't wait to read the next one to see if my questions are answered). There is a lot of intrigue and mystery which really compelled me. I don't think there have been many books where I just WANTED the characters to hook up already, but this one, I WANTED it... badly. I didn't really care so much for the main character "Mac" as she co

I don't know why, but I really could not get into this book. I've heard over and over how wonderful it is, how it's a "must read." It just did not grab me. I finally started getting interested in the action and the world at the very end (maybe the last 1/6th of the book). I love Urban Fantasy, so I know it's not the genre that put me off.
I think it was the characters. I could not connect with either Mac or Barrons. For a good chunk of the novel, Mac was just annoying, bratty sometimes. While I f ...more

I LOVED this book. Darkfever is so unlike Moning's other series that deals with Highlanders. From the book cover I thought it might be a romance but so far it's more of a paranormal mystery. Mac's sister Alina is killed while studying abroad in Ireland. After hearing the mysterious and disturbing message that her sister left on her cell phone Mac decides to go to Ireland. She tries to find out what happened and insure the proper authorities are doing all they can to catch her sister's murderer.

This review is sort of based on the series as a whole if you're considering starting it.. DON'T! Yet. Unless you like to be tortured by cliffhangers that will make you throw your book across the room (and perhaps scream and/or stomp on it). The final and 5th book won't be released until next year. The series is so detailed with many mysteries and clues, so I think it would be best to read them all back to back. The Fever books are great reads, but aren't good as stand-alone novels. I would class

I really like this series so far! The characters are great, and I really admire the heroine. She's well-developed, and her love for her sister is immense. She's willing to go so far into a foreign country to solve her sister's case once and for all.
Jericho Barrons? Don't like him so far. He is such a cold person...nothing but always pouting.
V'Lane? Give me a piece of that Fae! Gosh, he got me the second he entered the book. ...more
