Honestly, at first I was pretty so-so on this book, but I think that the last 20% or so did a good job of making me interested in where this series is headed.
Charley is ... okay. She's got a lot of "I'm a terrible person" baggage that made me roll my eyes, mostly because it is just so obviously untrue that it felt like false modesty for her to be thinking that stuff about herself. Charley Davidson is a private investigator with a difference, she just happens to be the grim reaper as well. Charley Davidson is the Grim Reaper - which basically means she is a sparkly portal that ghosts cross through to get to the right plane of existence, she remembers the day she was born, she heals ultra-fast, and oh, yeah, she sees dead people! She is also really snarky, being haunted by a sexy something-or-other and trying to solve the murder of three lawyers that were all double-tapped the same night. Totally loved it! Darynda has such sense of humor that reminds me of myself but unlike her I don't usually say it out loud! Honestly, I would burst out laughing and shake my head with the things she say.
I normally steer clear of detective/mystery type of novel but this one is definitely another series I'm looking forward to.

Loved every minute of it!! Charley is the type of girl I adore, love a smart-ass, just makes me feel at home ;), had me lol-ing all the way to the end and Reyes..........grrrrrrrr! I dived right into the next one w/out taking a breath!
Great book. Immediately drawn into Charley's world, humour friendship passion. Eagerly awaiting the second instalment
