Okay! I cannot for the life of me understand the multiple 5-star reviews! The average 4.5 star GR rating! The best romantasy of the year? The constant talk on booktok & bookstagram?! No! This was NOT good! Now I will admit when I first started this book I was enjoying it, but it went nowhere! Nothing happened! I was incredibly bored! There are too many things about this book I dislike than like.

My issues! I could not stand the FMC! I have this thing where I have to like the main ch DNF @ 58%

This was NOT good! Now I will admit when I first started this book I was enjoying it, but it went nowhere! Nothing happened! I was incredibly bored! There are too many things about this book I dislike than like.

My issues! I could not stand the FMC! I have this thing where I have to like the main character otherwise what’s the point? Now, I understand Odessa was this princess who has been sheltered pretty much her whole life and is a bit naive to the outside world, but good god! Did she have to be so annoying?!

The questions? Now, I don’t mind the questions Odessa asks because it is stuff as a reader I would want to know. Well, most things anyways. But it’s the fact that even after halfway through the book, we still don’t get any answers! I don’t mind waiting for those answers, but at least let me enjoy the journey until we get those answers!

I mean, all we have is traveling, monster attacks & training! Rinse and repeat! That is pretty much all the book has been up to the point I have read. Absolutely nothing has happened! And I am so fucking bored! I’m sorry, but I’ve been through a little over half of the book and you still haven’t given me anything?! Yeah, I’m done! I know others have said it gets better at 70-80% of the book, but if it takes that long to draw you in it ain’t worth it!

The romance! The enemies to lovers? I think Odessa’s character just ruins this for me! It gives off more a childish & juvenile vibe that I can’t even take it seriously! The amount of times she says she hates and fantasies about killing the MMC is so repetitive that I just can’t! I fucking get it! You hate him! The MMC can come off as an asshole sometimes, because of some of the things he says, but I didn’t hate him. And as I was reading I didn’t really get that big connection or chemistry with them to really care about them! Again, it could also be because I just don’t like or care for the FMC too! ...more

I was all over the place with this book. I liked it, then I didn’t, then it picked up & I liked it again, then just as quickly once again I didn’t. It was like that alllll the way through the book. There is a fine line between stupid and brave and the MC danced on that line & tripped into stupid way too many times for my liking. She confused strength and bravery with stubbornness and stupidity A LOT.

This book had me in a chokehold by the third chapter - the fantasy politics, the monsters and myths, and the main character raised to disappear and forced into a sudden marriage all made me want more. I was fascinated by all the secrets that were uncovered throughout the book, found the love interest fantastic, and rooted for them to find a way to save their peoples and their marriage.
