This was a really confusing read for me. There was a lot going on, with info dumps inserted in the middle of events or conversations. A lot to try and process and sort through. By the end, when things started to finally make sense, I did decide I liked the book. I'm guessing the second one will be less confusing now that I've got a sense of the writer's style and some background story.

Reread. 4 stars.

I'm not exactly sure why I never continued the series after reading book 1 six years ago. I must have enjoyed it enough to hang on to the book. Since Karen Chance is so popular and I still have her other books in my TBR, I decided to reread book 1 and continue on if I wanted to.

I really enjoyed the book. The characters and world development were interesting. I'm definitely going to continue on to book 2.

There was some good stuff here but also a bit of first book in the series syndrome. A fair amount of info dumping and history exposition, often interrupted dialogue so that I forgot what the question was before I heard the answer. But a lot of times first books aren't my favorite and I like the world and want to read more in the series. ...more

I didn't really liked this book... the characters were OK and the plot was interesting enough... but the writing, oh my dear God in heaven!, sooo much explaining and rambling and stalling... it was boring as hell!
it got to the point where I wanted to kill Cassie myself just to get her to shut up!

so this is a cool book reminds me of the blood ties books. This series is a mix of the sopranos and true blood. It is a must read.
