While I enjoyed the writing and found the world interesting, I had a hard time getting into this one. Grier was incarcerated at 16 for a killing someone (hint she didn't do it- not a spoiler). At 21 she is expectantly released, but why? That's one of the things that is discussed (shall we say) in this book.
While I really liked Grier (she has PTSD from her incarceration), I also thought she read younger then 21. I was worried at first because this had a hint of a love triangle, but luckily it was ...more

Grier Woolworth, 21, an assistant Necromancer, has just been released from supernatural prison after 5 years, having been accused of murdering her mentor Maud Woolworth. Grier has been pardoned and is hoping there won't be a shoe dropping, but she isn't betting on it. She had been sentenced to life and was drugged & tortured in prison, so she is broken and trying desperately to get her life back.
She is assisted by her haunted house Woolly, her zombie parakeet Keet & her best friend Amelie & Boaz ...more

Grier has spent years in prison (drugged up) for killing her aunt, which she doesn't remember doing and is finally set free to be a pawn
What I enjoyed:
* I liked Grier and her relationship with Boaz, Amelie and Neely
* The sentient house
* the resurrected bird
What could have been better:
* Grier seems waaaaaay too well adjusted for what happened to her
* There are a lot of politics going on and the sides aren't really explained

I thought that this was an interesting book. I read it because someone recommended it for someone who loved Annette Marie.
I thought that the concept was pretty interesting, and I am curious to see what happens in the next few. There were times when I was super confused, because things were happening and the reason why didn't really make any sense. That could be the fact that maybe I wasn't paying as much attention to them as I should have been? I don't know.
