What Members Thought

This was one of those random selections, where I know I have a a full day of monotonous paperwork, and need an audiobook to fill the void. Though this should have been on my radar based on both the fact that it's been read by a high number of my GR friends, and that I apparently shelved it as "To-read-maybe" back in 2013, and had apparently put it on my library wish list several years ago. But I think it was the fact that someone recently did a re-read, that made me say "I think someone, somewhe

It's unusual to compare books of different genre but I find myself doing so. I thought Angelfall was spectacular, Fifty Shades of Grey, engrossing, and now this..White Cat, interesting. After reading the first two books mentioned, I know I would be disappointed with the third book I would pick 'coz three consecutive intense books read just don't happen. I haven't come down from the drug-like high of Angelfall and Fifty Shades..so this book almost feel like a let down. I think its a wrong book re

I didn't know what to expect when I borrowed this book from Overdrive. I decided to read the book because I am participating in a Bingo game and needed a book for my free space and this book fit the criteria for the game.
Cassel is the main character of this story. He comes from a family of magic who are also conmen. It is interesting as I was listening to the story about how Cassel feels he is losing his memory and dreaming of a white cat. The story held my interest.

I Absolutely Loved This Book for Many Reasons:
1. It had a male point of view: I've never read an Young Adult Urban Fiction novel with a male point of view and that was very refreshing! Ok I lied, Rick Riordan's books are from a Male POV, but I wouldn't classify The Lightning Thief as Urban Fiction or Paranormal Romance. To me Rick Riordan is more Epic Fantasy, not really Urban Fiction.
2. No Life Lessons: I've gotten very sick of all the Life Lessons that are being stuck into Young Adult novels. ...more

To be perfectly honest, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this book. I can see why it's so appealing, the world is different and interesting. But I found I did not like Cassel or his point of view. I understood the way he thought but I didn't feel any real depth from him.
The plot structure was good, even though it was a bit predictable. There were still things that kept me guessing. I think any young adult who reads this will love it but I guess I'm too old for it, which makes me sad because ...more

I enjoyed this book and I don't want to say much because I don't want to give anything away.

Overall: This was a fast paced story that kept me reading from beginning to end. It's a darker, grittier look into the world of magic and family. I look forward to reading more in this series and seeing how the decisions made to stick by family affects Cassel's future. I'm also looking forward to finding out (hopefully) more about the crime families and how the politics will affect the curse workers.

I enjoyed this book- it was dark and strange. I didn't really feel there was a climax it was just constant mystery and problems.
