I swore to myself I won't read anymore of the series after I read the 17th book, but then I came across the cover for the 20th and read the synopsis and the wheels in my head went "assassin, Edward and Olaf, good book, the best book since it all went to hell... have to read!" and so, there I am like 2 days later after I read the 18th, which wasn't bad probably cuz Richard and all the annoying people didn't have enough pages to make appearance, but when I moved to the next one it was an ok maybe I swore to myself I won't read anymore of the series after I read the 17th book, but then I came across the cover for the 20th and read the synopsis and the wheels in my head went "assassin, Edward and Olaf, good book, the best book since it all went to hell... have to read!" and so, there I am like 2 days later after I read the 18th, which wasn't bad probably cuz Richard and all the annoying people didn't have enough pages to make appearance, but when I moved to the next one it was an ok maybe until Richard showed up!
It's like I have an allergy to his character. Every time he's there I get irritated and just want to drop the book and never pick it up again, probably in my whole lifetime. Yeah, I went only 1/5 of the book and stopped.... I'll try to make myself finish it. Perhaps by doing a combo of a really good romance or urban fantasy book with this one.

*finally finished reading*.... okay... this might be the worse book so far...
One thing is that a lot of pages went to the opening, with intreducing every character (the norm) and that dance performance, and then the so called "fight" with Asher...
Killing Haven was sad, and I really liked him (who could not like him?), and the after though and all gave some depth to the book, but then the author goes and brings it back to that (ero)..
If you thing about it, Anita turned into something really close to a whore but instead of money she gets power, and I'm sure that in the definition is someone who does it in exchange for gettting something.
So Micha chooses another person who she's gonna sleep with, in the same day that she killed Haven and I donno about other people but I think there should've been more resistense.
So anyway, she sleeps with that one, and on the way Richard and Jean Claude, and I really hated that part. Sure Richard has been like that probably sincce the beggining, but not JC! And it's like she was okay with that.. well not me! I would rather it be a reverse harem! Plus near the end of the book Anita kind of? does a girl herself...
And if that isn't reason enough to hate the book, then there wasn't any action except killing Haven. Also no mystery or killer to find. AND! the plot of the next book probably started in this one, cuz the next is about assassins coming to kill Anita, and well some already appeared here.. ...more

I just read the Latest in the series of Anita Blake Vampire Hunter I was pleasantly surprised that i actually liked this, book a commanding plot would have made this a #1 contender, but as usual we lacked a plot and were finally overrun by one metaphysical event after another.

But i will say the author tried to repair some of the damage she had done to Richard the lead werewolf character in the series, who had been so much maligned he was nearly unrecognizable from his wolf, but with so therapy ...more

Disappointing read, in my opinion, for Anita Blake fans. There are a few reasons I make this statement...

1. The book was not as long as other Anita Blake books in the series. I guess I was just expecting alot more after the bomb that the last book, Flirt was.
2. Too much detailed description given when it was completely unnecessary. LKH re-describes past events with too much detail when Anita Blake fans should remember them well enough without all the extra descriptions. I ended up glossing over ...more

I love him, even when he has broken my heart right along with Anita's. I've loved him and been okay with him because I've understood why he was hurting so bad and lashing out. It can't be easy to learn to share, especially that much, when you are used to monogomy. This book was really pivitol in building power for Jean-Claude, Anita and Richard's triamvirant, as well as their vampire kiss and wereanimals, in order to fight against Marmee Noir. I I really loved Richard's development in this book. I love him, even when he has broken my heart right along with Anita's. I've loved him and been okay with him because I've understood why he was hurting so bad and lashing out. It can't be easy to learn to share, especially that much, when you are used to monogomy. This book was really pivitol in building power for Jean-Claude, Anita and Richard's triamvirant, as well as their vampire kiss and wereanimals, in order to fight against Marmee Noir. I've come to accept the way they must do this (sex, because of where their bloodline's power comes from) and all the partnerships and men in Anita's life, which was really a challenge for me at first because I traditionally like one on one, soul mate, happily ever after relationships in my books. However, I've grown to love the characters, i.e, Micah, Nathaniel, Jean-Claude, Richard, even Asher (most of the time) so I've accepted what they had going and could even be a little envious of Anita with all her wonderful men who love her. What's funny, is that there is a lot of debate on whether or not readers are okay with the male on male action in the books. Honestly that has not bothered me at all...I was a little reluctant to have Anita share Jean-Claude with Asher fully, but that was only for the same reason as Anita (she hasn't as easily shared her men as well as her men have shared her), but it turned out to be great with me. It's really funny and totally illogical, but what did bother me in this book, probably the only thing, was when a new female was introduced and shared between Jean-Claude and Richard right before Anita's eyes. She was expecting to be bothered by it and feel jealous and she wasn't, but I was. I know it's totally selfish and what old Anita would have felt, but I just had a knot in my stomach, and not a good one, when I was reading that scene and in my mind, seeing my men with another woman. I think I just have a tendancy to feel like I am the heroine when I'm reading in first person and while I have been okay with the men sharing Anita among themselves, I had a hard time seeing another woman with my men! HA. Anyway, I know it's ridiculous with all the other sex going on and Anita deciding sharing her men with other men, but I guess I am just like she was a few books ago...territorial when it comes to my men with other women. I know it's only fair for the men who have been monogomous to Anita (except Richard) when she is sooo not monogomous right in front of them, but like I said, it's illogical. I just hope it doesn't become a habit to include other women in further books. What's funny, is that I wasn't even bothered when Anita had a moment with Jade, the other female weretiger, because none of the other men touched Jade. I don't think I would mind if the other men who are not her steady boyfriends were with the other ladies, I think it was that the men she loves were with this woman. I know it was to build the power structure so it had to be Jean-Claude and that was the entire point,(and she went off in the room with the new male tiger and three of her steady men) but that's just how I feel...can't help it. It's funny that I'm always defending these books and have been so open minded with everything, but now I have found my uncomfortable button in probably one of the most natural things that have happened or could happen in the series. Some of her men are finally getting to be with another woman when they have watched her be with countless others, but I'm just more of a jealous person than the characters I guess. hehehe. Even going back and reading over this is sound ridiculous and I'm sure I'll get over it. I keep thinking that line in my head that Anita says when she realizes she's comfortable with the whole scene. She says (totally paraphrasing) that there is enough sex to go around and certainly enough love. It makes sense, if you're not going to have a monogomous relationship and not only that, but fall in love with at least five men, you can share some of that love. She is okay with Jean-Claude loving Asher and Micah and Nathaniel, having pretty much been a packaged deal from the beginning, seem to have come to truly love each other and that is all gravy in my opinion. So, I guess the additional female will just be a hurdle for me. Anita did mention, when she had to add a tiger to their mix, that she missed it being just Micah, her and Nathaniel and I guess I miss that intimacy too. Maybe we'll get some of that in the next book??? Bring on the Love! ...more

I would have given this 4/5 stars, but there was just too many unnecessary sex scenes in this book. I was really happy that the storyline finally progressed and i was REALLY REALLY happy that Richard came back and actually tried to mend things.

The ending made me wonder if there were going to be more books or if she was going to end it with this one. I hope there's one more so she can finish out the series once and for all.

Good book though, much better than the last 10 or so books in the series. ...more

There have been a lot of knocks on this series. I *have to read all the Anita books cause I have invested so much time into them! It is basically a big soap opera, but the main story line gets moved along in this book. Sure there was lots of sex and Anita whined over it, and there are so many characters I can't keep them straight anymore, but I am curious where the gang goes from here. ...more
