What can I say...What a ride!

This book started off really slow for me. I was wondering why everyone was telling me to read it. Suddenly, it became interesting. I could not put the book down. The dialogue was clever, the action was exciting.

The world building is well done. I felt the bleak devastation of a city ravaged by waves of magic. I could visualize the different creatures that inhabited this world: the were-creatures led by the Beast Lord Curran, the zombie-like vampires controlled by nec

I think this book is the beginning of a great series! It's taken me a while to get to read this, and I'm excited to see where Kate's story will go from here.

Ms. Andrews has created a completely different world involving shifters, magic, and some of the weirdest and most disgusting vampires I've ever read! It did take me a while to understand fully what was going on, but once I was able to follow the ins and outs of the story, I enjoyed it a lot.

Kate is actually pretty kick ass, but level-headed.

This one was a good surprise. I really liked Kate, and even though the world she lives in and the situations she needs to get through can be confusing and quite overwhelming at times, I’m truly interested in getting to know more about her, and about it all. And of course, I need to know how her relationship with Curran is going to develop. “Here, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty...”

Not sure how many times I’ve read this series now.. 5? 6? But somehow my hate of endings means I haven’t finished the last book in the series. It seems though that the series continues with the Wilmington Years short stories? So I’m back for a complete reread this time!

I really enjoyed this book. It was confusing at first with all the different terms & types of people, but once I figured all that out I didn't want to stop reading. This series fits into the kind of books I like to read: Leading Kick-Ass Female. You'll like this book if you've enjoyed reading the Anita Blake or Mercy Thompson series. ...more

I love the magical worlds that Ilona Andrews creates, in both this and The Edge series, l-o-v-e love. I also love that while Kate has a smart mouth, she is capable of thinking and censoring herself every once in a while. She knows she's a tough chick and doesn't really feel the need to prove herself. I enjoyed the story, it's a good, quick, UF read. I don't know why it doesn't get 5 stars, because there's nothing that really bothered me about the story...*shrugs shoulders* ...more

I don't know if I should give this book 3 or 4 stars... it took me a while to get into the story.
Plus didn't love Kate... I do like Curran very much!
It's just that... I don't know, too much explaining, to many characters, too many weird things going on..
AND I was expecting some lovin' at the end... maybe in the next book?
meh!, I don't think finding out is worth reading another book.
