High Voltage (Fever, #10) in SOS: Serious Overload of Series

I have to put it out there since Karen Marie Moning decided to continue with the Fever Series and we got all these spin off book it just hasn't been the same as the original series, books 1-5. I remember when I read those and I used to be so damn excited for every new book and going crazy at how good everything was in those book. But books 6 and onwards has been such a hot mess. It's not even the same series I loved so much.

Now I wasn't even going to read HIGH VOLATGE but somehow because it is I have to put it out there since Karen Marie Moning decided to continue with the Fever Series and we got all these spin off book it just hasn't been the same as the original series, books 1-5. I remember when I read those and I used to be so damn excited for every new book and going crazy at how good everything was in those book. But books 6 and onwards has been such a hot mess. It's not even the same series I loved so much.

Now I wasn't even going to read HIGH VOLATGE but somehow because it is Karen Marie Moning, I just can't help myself. Now I was well aware that this was Dani and Ryodan's book. I knew I wouldn't be getting my beloved Mac and Barrons. To an extent I did enjoy Dani way more in this book than in previous books because finally she is an adult and wouldn't be stuck in the PG-13 world any longer with her. What I do like about Dani is she is her own woman, she likes to take care of herself and not rely on anyone to save her but herself.

But at time she was exciting and at times she bored me to death. I just wish she was exciting all the time. She just didn't work as the heroine for me. Sorry,not sorry. Maybe I found a hard time connecting with her or caring at this point.

I hated, and I mean absolutely hated that at this beginning of the book we were told that all the nine were leaving, and just just for a couple of days or weeks, but years. And Mac and Barrons were gone obviously too. Now the Nine are the most intriguing part of this series for me and they just up and leave. It made it very hard to get through this book until they came back. It was torture.

I was told as well that this was more romance than the previous book. Mac and Barrons story had such a slow burning build up. But this? What.the.Fuck. This was a romance book gone bad. So fucking bad! There is no buildup to the romance at all. Ryodan leaves for like years, and comes back and is all ready to pursue Dani. Everything with Dani and Ryodan felt so freaking rushed. Like the same woman he wrote the epic, slow burning Mac and Barrons romance wrote this? Really?

And Ryodan? What happened to you? I know he is considered more human where Barrons is more beastly, but when you are comparing him in previous books to this book, his characters did a complete 180. This did not even seem like Karen Marie Moning's writing, more like bad fanfic.

This just did not work for me at all. I didn't like it, and I will not apologize for not liking it. If you liked it great. To each their own. The original Fever Books, 1-5, were absolutely epic. The books 6 and onwards are not. I have enjoyed some of them to an extent, but they are not on the same level as the original Fever Books, 1-5. I say I won't read anymore, but knowing me I probably will cave and read the next one, I just won't be as excited about it as I used to be about these books. ...more
