Reaver has been a long awaited experience, one that has taken us a long time to reach and one that has left me so shaken that it took me over a week before I could collect my thoughts enough to write my review, which is the highest compliment I can give. The tenth in the Demonica series and the fifth in the Lords of Deliverance series, Reaver does not let down even a little. The book seamlessly merges the two series. They have been connected for a while, but it was only in this book that it actually felt like Underworld General was as much a part of the book as the four Horsemen.

Reaver started out as an Unfallen, an angel who had lost his wings but not fallen into evil, yet. He saved the world and gained his wings, and got a job as the heavenly The tenth in the Demonica series and the fifth in the Lords of Deliverance series, Reaver does not let down even a little. The book seamlessly merges the two series. They have been connected for a while, but it was only in this book that it actually felt like Underworld General was as much a part of the book as the four Horsemen.

Reaver started out as an Unfallen, an angel who had lost his wings but not fallen into evil, yet. He saved the world and gained his wings, and got a job as the heavenly watcher of the Horsemen but his memory only goes back thirty years. It was only fairly recently in the book chronology that he discovered he was (view spoiler)

As if that is not enough, he knows that the only person who might remember some of his past, is Harvester - currently being put through the wringer by Satan for betraying hell to heaven. She was Reaver's evil counterpart as the Sheoulic watcher of the horsemen and he has hated her from the moment they met. But for some reason, he also wants her - and not just her body. So he acts as expected and decides to rescue Satan's daughter from hell.

Half the book is the escape, and it does work well. The rest of the book is about Reaver and Harvester, their convoluted past, and trying to fix the current situation. Because rescuing Harvester has made Satan hellbent on starting a war with Heaven - one there is a large chance he would win.

There are plot and sub plots - some of which are related to what is happening now, some are a bit older, and some are all the way back from five thousand years ago. Reaver goes through a lot of development and so does Harvester. I really liked how she remained her badass self. I would have not been happy if she had changed into a angelic, holier than thou being just cause the truth was about which side she was batting for (view spoiler)

I ending worked for me though sometimes (view spoiler) but I guess Reaver needed it and it was the only backstory that kind of made sense.

I really had fun with all the glimpses of UGH. I love Wraith and his sense of humor - and I really love how it drives everyone else mad. Reaver also has a wicked sense of humor - thank god! The book would not be what it is if he was broody - no way!

Overall, ten books in and this is still series that I look forward to. ...more

Maybe it's because I was fighting off getting a cold when I read it or because I loved Reaver so much in previous books but this one fell a tiny bit short for me. Don't get me wrong, this is one of my favorite PNR series so a tiny bit short is still pretty damn good. Reaver & Harvester have a bit of the "epic" about their story. I loved them and their interactions. When you get bits and pieces of their history it's heartbreaking as well.

Non stop action, mystery, reveals, and then more mystery. Start to finish full of action, laughs, and twists. Really look forward to Revenant. Liked that many of the characters from both series are in this one. Would have liked more of the Horsemen, but having E and his brother & the staff as much as we did was nice. And the setup for the next book seems to have been laid down already by happenings in this book.
