I am a huge fan of Devon Monk's Allie Beckstrom series, so when I read that Shame was getting his spin-off... I was over the moon!

I loved Hell Bent, I loved getting a glimpse into the characters I fell in love with through the years and also meeting a host of new characters and getting to know this new, post-catastrophe world.

While it's not absolutely necessary to have read the Allie Beckstrom series first, I wholeheartedly recommend doing so. I came to know and care about the majority of the characters while reading the first series and feel a lot of the complexity in the relationships would be lost without having the background explored previously. This is the first book from Shame's point of view, about three years after the last Allie book ended, and we are seeing the consequences of that final battle and how everyone is holding up/getting on with their lives.

I liked getting to see through Shame's eyes and look forward to the rest of this spin-off series.
