When I read a new book by an author I’ve enjoyed before, I tried not to compare it to his past books. However, it was difficult not to do this here because Armada has many many similarities with Ready Player One, Ernest Cline’s debut novel: video-game obsessed young man learns all about 80s pop culture due to (second) obsession with a dead man and uses said video game skills to save the day. A disappointing second book from Cline and I would have rated in lower expect that I did love his first book. Far too predictable and used far too many overused tropes with nothing new to say.
