A short story set in the Elder Races world, featuring Claudia, gifted with a weak telekinesis talent and ex-military who is looking for her place in the world after the army, and Luis, a shapeshifter she finds almost dead by the side of the road in his animal form.

A serious story with an unusual couple with a big age difference, despite which they fit quite well.

The series continues with another short story, Devil's Gate.

I don't have a problem with HFN endings but I want to have an idea of whether they will make it. Not so much in this novella. The ending was so ambigous that I can't tell you if they'd last even a few weeks together, specially considering the big hurdles in their relationship - he's a 27-year old Wyr and she's a 40-year old human woman. At some point, Luis thinks:

They would burn each other up. They would burn too fast. But they would burn brightly.

I liked it but that ending is not an ending at all. They hook up and then? Nothing was solved between Luis and Claudia, they only got a HFN.

I liked the story well enough.. I loved the characters too. It just ends kind of abruptly and without real resolution. Hopefully that means we'll be getting another one of Luis and Claudia... Cuz if not that seems kind of shitty. ...more
