My husband's favorite movie, and by extension, one of his favorite books, is Dune. A couple of years ago, ever the dutiful fiancee, I sat down to watch it with him. I love David Lynch, I've met Kyle McLachlan before and he's super nice, and Husband and I have sci fi and geek culture as mutual interests. Should have been a no brainer, right? I'm glad I read this. It was definitely dated; there were some strange anachronisms (like, coffee? Saguaro cactus?); a weird mixture of hyper developed technology and medieval imagery (like, magical body shields but knife fighting?); and it's not really my cup of tea, but this is one of those classics of the genre that you have to read some day and I only waited 50 years or so after its publication to get to it.
