This book turns gender stereotypes around. The female main character is smart and strong and saves the day and Howl, the male character, is more of an anti-hero who does the right thing in spite of himself. It has adventure, magic, romance, a clever plot and witty writing - what more could you ask.

Quirky characters who are flawed but likable and lots of great writing and humor made this quite an enjoyable read. I would consider this one of those timeless books that can be read aloud to kids and enjoyed by children and adults.
