3.8 stars

I’m having a hard time rating this one. The story was overall good.

- Eleanor was a hard to love character, as intended. I did relate to her on a small level.

- I was bored with a good chunk of the book and skimmed through those parts. Just not enough dialogue for me, but that’s more personal preference.

- The ending was great.

Not quite a 4 star book on my personal grading scale, but it was a good story, so I give it 3.8 and rounded up for Goodreads.

First 5 star rating of the year for me. This book was fantastic. I adored every single paragraph. Every time I opened the book to read more on Eleanor, all the household chores for the day would be neglected. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. Loved being in Eleanor's world for a bit. ...more

My initial judgement, after only having read 20 pages, was wrong. I ended up loving Eleanor and I’m so glad I read this. It’s a bittersweet but ultimately uplifting and beautiful story.

This book ended up taking me a while to read. Most likely because I haven't been taking the train to work for the past few weeks, and also because I was sick which resulted in me falling asleep every time I sat down to read this. That, however, has no reflection on how wonderful this book was. I don't even know what it was about this book that I enjoyed so much... the storyline isn't particularly intriguing. But it's probably the character development. I'm a character person. In order for me to ...more

3.5 stars. Not that it isn't well written, it is; it's just a long, tedious novel and heavy subject. Appreciated the ending but not sure it was the "pay off" I needed for what felt like a slogfest of a novel. It's possible I wasn't connecting/relating to the character(s) enough, but I did appreciate the hero's journey (to a degree). ...more

Lovely book. Light on the surface at first, but you learn soon that there is much more going on in Eleanor’s life. Absolutely perfect novel. My favorite book of the year so far.
