“Even when I’m not there, I’m always with you.”
I wasn't 100% sure what this story was about going in to it. I'd read some good review, knew it was a Goodreads choice awards contender and it made me curious. Obviously, it's about the demise of a marriage - or at least the struggle of one. But it was not the story I thought it would be. I felt largely bored at least a full half of the book. It wasn't even that I'd guessed the big twists that happens in the middle, it was more that I could tell the ...more

If you’re looking for a riveting psychological thriller, this one is a perfect choice. It’s tense, it’s frightening and there are twists that readers will not see coming.
I’m going to do my best to review this without spoilers. There is a cast of unlikeable characters, with the exception of Aunt Charlotte, who was my favorite person in the story. The narrator(s) is unreliable and at times readers will not be certain of who is telling the story.

2.5
It’s hard to write a review of this book without spoilers. Suffice to say that I’m glad I decided to keep going when I was feeling really irritated about the actions of the characters for the first quarter. And then it started making more sense and less annoying. Somethings still left me scratching my head at the end but I guess I can’t force writers to make their characters act in ways that make sense to me. I’m glad I read it though.

Just ... whoa! I thoroughly enjoyed this one. There were so many twists and turns I didn't know which way was up at some point! And that epilogue - I loved it! I'm so glad I finally got this one read!

When I first started listening to this one, I will admit that I didn't think I was going to like it. But after a few chapters I was quickly proven wrong. I was completely engrossed in the story and since I was listening to the audio book, I found myself unable to stop playing it. I listened at work and even at home instead of reading my physical books. I HAD to know what was going to happen next.

When you read part 1 of this book you'll think you've got the entire story figured out. You'll probably be waiting for the inevitable story about the first wife.
Wait until part 2. Part 2 flips the story on its head and simultaneously brings everything full circle. I loved the writing style and the alternating viewpoints.
This story may be a little too close to home for some. Without spoiling anything, just keep that in mind.

I was pretty engaged throughout and really was caught off by the first big twist. I enjoyed the characters and didn't mind that the POV and timeline was hoping back and forth. I found it very easy to follow and was interesting enough to keep picking it back up. I even enjoyed the end, although there was a final twist that felt unnecessary and forced but I'd still recommend this book to anyone who likes a good relationship mystery.

This book was exceptional. Even knowing part of the twist to it, I was absolutely shocked by how it worked itself out. These two authors were a fantastic writing team, and I’m going to read their other book as soon as I can pick it up.
I’d say at first this book reminded me a bit of The Girl on The Train, but even that feels like a shallow comparison. If you like that sort of book, though, this one is a treat.

I enjoyed this. I did figure things out before they happened, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of it.
